SATA 1, 2 & 3 connectors are the same as far as im aware the difference is how the mainboard communicates

They dont recommend different ones on same port tho due to speed issues, to be honest how many cameras you got to fill 2tb of drive space?

Unless it supports USB storage then I dont think its possible with 1 connector.

If it was ide you could have master and slave sadly SATA doesnt work that way

The other space saving thing is record using a lower resolution rather than HD or max res, the image will be most likely perfectly viewable

you got a link to the DVR unit?

    Hi DD
If its the sunluxy Home 4ch CCTV DVR Day Night Weatherproof Security Camera Surveillance System, then I think it will only take 1 hard drive up to 3TB SATA

and you will have a usb on the back to move any recorded stuff you want to keep.

I have a qvis 8 camera system which is the same with only 1 x 3TB hard drive in it which gives me around 20 days

I was wondering if you had a 4tb drive split in to 2 partitions would that work?

Im thinking the SATA interface wont see drives larger than 2tb tho, they seem to specify 2tb drive sizes on the ones i viewed

unless youre a commercial property, would you really need so much footage archived? i fit quite a few CCTV systems, and under 'normal' use and resolutions, a 4 camera system will hold just short of 4 weeks worth on a 500Gb HDD, set it to 'motion activated even recording' only (which i dont recommend as i can show you how to easily get past this) and youll save up to 3 months worth on a 500Gb hdd

i have 4 cameras, recording 24/7, and right now, i can view december 17th footage, which i think is more than enough. if something happens, you normally know the next day, or if its a neighbour etc, within 2 or 3 days. its highly unlikely that someone will say 'i dont suppose you have footage of 13 weeks ago, on tuesday, at 4:20pm do you?' theyd have been in touch a lot sooner if something had happened imo
