    Tech Panasnoic DMR-EZ49V Issues

    Hi, first post on here...

Looking for advice, I a Panasonic DVD/VHS box which is giving me issues starting up.

Normally in standby the digital clock blinks on 00:00 however when the unit powers on the screen is splashed with "U99" and the unit wont power up.

Any advice on what the problem could be? - theres nothing on the manual relating to it

    Thanks in advance

    -Bob

    found this
This indicates a communication error between the timer and main microprocessors... and it should clear with a Power cycle - Off to On.
try this see if it helps
Press & Hold the power button until the machine shuts down
Then with the machine off press and hold "stop" & "channel up" buttons on the recorder front panel for over 5 seconds. Release both buttons, the machine should turn on and eject the disk.
My friend had the same prob and he found out is Panasonic combo recorder recently failed due to two defective capacitors on the unit's internal power-supply board. Not a hard fix but a pain in the butt to do because you have to strip the machine down to get access to them and they are small

    Thank you,

I will give this a try and see if it works.

Is this a sign that other things may be going wrong with the unit?

    thanks again

Glad I could help, there is a train of thought that it is the type of disc used I don't think some Panasonics like some discs but if it is the capacitors then yes you are going to have probs down the line. They are easy to spot if they are at fault they will be blown/swollen the prob is as I have said they are small a pain to change unless you have a steady hand and a good soldering iron best of luck and welcome to wod

Thank you for the warm welcome,

I've had the unit for a small while now so maybe don't need to panic about the warranty. I'll wait for it to break again then I will feel less guilty to wield a screw driver and solder at it ;-)

There was a DVD-R in the drive and it happily surrendered it once it was working again.
