    Quiz Buzzer System Wanted

    Hello peeps!

I'm after a buzzer system for a quiz I'm holding for a local charity. Here's some basic requirements to help you suggest:

    • 6-8 teams
    • Must have a lock-out system to identify the first person buzzing in & not allow other buzzers to lock in
    • Preferably have a visual indicator associated to the buzzer as well
    • Preferably under ?100... a little over this is fine... its a charity and I'm footing this bill myself
    • The event is on 19th May 2013... so not a lot of time left...
    • If someone can design/make this - I'd be happy to foot the bill and pay a reasonable (?20?) over the expenses for their efforts...

    Please please please... Help !
    Best regards,
    pande_monium

    Re: Quiz Buzzer System Wanted

I have seen systems for rent for just under ?100 but buying one will be very expensive because of the 8 buttons, controller etc.

There's a DIY kit available to manage 4 but can be daisy chained together for 8. This is American but if you think you could put it together then I'm sure you could find a UK equivalent

    Re: Quiz Buzzer System Wanted

I've seen a couple on eBay which are close to what I'm after... but the issue is they're distant and the time it'll take to deliver them to me.

I'm after a system similar to the first one, but locally available, or create-able. Hope this isn't a tall ask! I'm hoping someone here is up to the challenge to create one, if none are readily available.

Door bells with lights on. You could change the sounds and the colour of the light - Would be cheaper

    Re: Quiz Buzzer System Wanted

Thanks for the ideas chaps... whilst the door buzzers and lights would be 'workable', it wouldn't be ideal in a near identical buzz situation... which I presume would arise fairly frequently in a buzzer round.

The commercially available buzzer systems have a lock-out system programmed into them to only allow the first buzzer through and stop subsequent buzzer presses. Some smart systems even save the sequence and allow you to replay them back.

I know its an overkill for a charity fund-raiser... but I suppose that's me Hidden Content

Is this any good, it's expandable and has LED to indicate first button pushed. Hidden Content

or this one which is quite a bit more expensive but seems to have everything you require Hidden Content

Cheers MzB ! I quite like the first one. Ordered it... waiting for it now Hidden Content . Looks cheap and cheerful... seems it can be daisy-chained too, so I can add to it if it turns out to be good. Got to get some cables, bell-switches, a box to house it and a 9v battery. Still, all in, it'll be less than ?30 if it works well. Cheers once again!

    Re: Quiz Buzzer System Wanted

So, this one bombed big time... I bought 2 units (different days, ended up paying the postage twice!)... ?23 in total! Little did I realise these are NOT build boards... the PCB, resistors, caps, sw, leds... everything came separate! Spent almost 6 hours yesterday doing them both... and neither of them bloody work! Must've done something wrong obviously... but what hurts me most is that now I've only got 3 days to go before the flipping quiz! So, lesson of the day... you get what you pay for... I guess I should've chosen the 2nd option Hidden Content ... will try if that's still possible... probably not! Hey, at least I tried Hidden Content ... thanks MzB once again!

    Re: Quiz Buzzer System Wanted

Aww soz about that pande, I assumed they came built as well, I knew you'd need to get buttons etc but thought the basic pcb came built. I've had a quick google and you may find this forum useful regarding the building of the kit, all the best and hope your quiz night is a big success.

    Re: Quiz Buzzer System Wanted

No worries MzB... the quiz went off brilliantly! Huge success... almost 400 peeps turned up to support the teams and we raised nearly ?3000 to be distributed equally to (British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research, our supported orphanage in South India). We're going to organise another one now due to the huge demand... in July. So, there's probably going to be a little time to order these from the US. But, I'll try the link you gave me. Thanks once again!
