Stating the obvious here but are you remembering to click apply and ok'ing it once you've changed the time and date ?

If not what berley says. The my monies on the cmos/bios battery.

Depending on your system I.e Desktop/laptop changing the battery is usually simple enough but some laptops dont make it easy. Just make sure you get the correct type thou.

    Re: Clock resets??

This will be your CMOS battery that needs changing, as this started on my acre laptop last nite, which now resets itself back to 2006

You will find a battery which is fitted to the motherboard that will need to be replaced it looks like a watch battery
Once this is done it should hold the time and date once again

    Hope this helps

    Re: Clock resets??

Its most likely to be the battery. All the computers ihave built have used a CR2032 (i think it is the standard battery, unless it has changed recently)

Yeah thanks, was thinking it would be some internal battery source, reverts back to 2007 on every power up and need to be set to today's time and date to work with some security certificates.

    Will give it a blast.

I concur with CypherX, definitely a CR2032 battery you need, nip to poundworld and pick up a pack of 8 for a quid.. Don't go to PC world or Tesco or you will get ripped off

    desktop or laptop

the battery you need all depends on which pc you got either laptop or desktop. as any desktop motherboard will use a CR2032 battery and a laptop will have to have a certain sort of bettery that is not easily located. therefore if you are having problems with your laptop firstly make sure you keep on charge when not using it and have in sleep mode to avoid using the cmos battery or the tricky way. is try and find the manual for the motherboard in your laptop to locate the battery. and proceed with caution removing sll what is needed to be able to get at the battery and replace with and identical battery.

sleep mode will not conserve cmos battery life.

its in use all the time
whether your pc is powered or not.

Remember after you change the battery you'll need to go into the BIOS and set the correct time there.

Almost certain that this will just be a flat CMOS battery, a very quick and easy fix.

This happened on my folks PC and I also found that not unplugging (or turning off at the wall) kept the date / time.. Until months later we changed the CMOS batt.
