Re: Which TV uses the most energy?
On average,
A plasma uses about 221 watts;
An LCD uses 96 watts;
An LED uses 83 watts,
These are based on 40" - 42" sets, and vary widely (the above figures being the averages).

Plasma I think, the pixels also burn on the screen if you leave it on too long.

Re: Which TV uses the most energy?
Sorry m8 but that's not strictly true!
Early Plasma's needed to be "burnt in" before they were at their best.
You could happily watch a Plasma screen for hours the same as any other screen, but, if you left it on a still picture too long then it could burn a lingering image on the screen, which is why like pc monitors you had screensavers!
The lingering image could usually be removed eventually by degaussing I think I remember.
Modern Plasmas, or second generation Plasma's are much cooler to the touch and use much less power than their predecessors, though they are still the most power hungry of all modern sets, which is probably why they are now usually the cheapest big screen tellys to buy.
In their favour, some people believe Plasma's still have the best contrast ratio's and deepest blacks of all, though personally I can't attest to that having had both a Plasma and an LCD telly.
There is an emerging new format of screen now being sold, the Neo LED which is supposed to be even better for both picture response and image contrast, while being even less power hungry than normal LED screens. Of course this new technology also comes at a higher price point. Hidden Content

The salesman would, they're the most expensive to buy! Hidden Content
As stated above, new Plasma's are a lot cooler than the old models!

That's why you get loads of burnt ones in Airports, I remember reading that somewhere once.

Well that explains why British Rail don't use them then,...............there's not enough movement to change the picture! Hidden Content

Re: Which TV uses the most energy?
Bigger TVs use more power. A 32-inch LCD uses about half as much power as a 52-inch LCD. Of course, the 52-incher's screen is nearly three times as large as that of the 32-inch model, so the efficiency payoff for going down in screen size does tend to taper off. However, the chances are your new flat-screen TV will use more power than your old tube TV--if the new set is significantly larger.

Re: Which TV uses the most energy?
With LED tvs using the least power, what about the 3D tvs now?
