me old man wants freesat
me old man has been nattering to me about freesat although he got a freeview tv
he says he wants it because of the extra movies channels,im gonna source a sky dish
for him,but what box should i be going for,bush,grundig,humax,technomate,dm500
he dont want to be spending to much
also i did see a freesat kit at me local b and q store for about ?50,this included the dish, receiver,
cable and mounting brackets, are these any use or should i keep away from them

Re: me old man wants freesat
if hes not interested in receiving paid channels in the future and he is on a budget or isnt willing to spend anything and is just happy with more free channels then the diy kit for 50 is a steal.
if you think he would be better off with future proof and doesnt need hd then get a dm500 just incase and a dish off ebay?
either way ya looking about 50 for AIO or about 80 for a 500/coax/dish all in.
me personally id 500 it and have done cos its nice to be able to get more later down the line!?

Re: me old man wants freesat
Is help available for older people and those on disability benefits wanting to install freesat?
Yes, the Digital Switchover Help Scheme is designed to support older people and those on disability benefits switching to digital TV. The scheme operates regionally and those eligible will be contacted directly, and have their options clearly explained to them. freesat will feature as an option under the scheme. Hidden Content
however mags most areas switched so youll need to check, i know london is deffo eligible.

Re: me old man wants freesat
Hi mate, was in my local b&q earlier their current setup is now ?40 for the HD version P.I.T.A to setup up the box as i have it.
You have to move the channels into order individually, the E.P.G is pretty much useless and it will scan in dead channels that you then have to remove manually and yes you guessed it, One by one.
It took me roughly 4 hours to get it how i wanted it. and there is a tendancy to switch frequency for some channels which involves re scanning rather than just "adding" be it automatically or manually.
I.m.h.o i would get a box you could program from a laptop etc i wished i had at the time
