Re: Time for me to leave Sky once again
I've found with Sky that you have to ditch services for at least 3 months before they give you an offer. I generally cancel Sky sports at the start of May so that by the time the 30days is up, the football season is finished. Unfortunately I have to miss the first month of the new season, but they usually offer you 3 months free to come back. Lats year I got free ESPN as well

Re: Time for me to leave Sky once again
The final straw for me was getting a 3D tv and realising that paying for the basic channels, movies, HD and 2 multirooms wasn't good enough to get the 3d channel. I need to pay for the sport channels which we'd never watch and on top of that pay more for ppv 3d movies.
I'm afraid I've went down another route and sky can whistle.

Re: Time for me to leave Sky once again
I didn't know you had to pay for all that lot including the sports packages just to get the 3D!
That makes it very expensive, to say nothing of paying yet again at a higher price to watch films in 3D.
I think that prices it out of the sensible market for most people.
The best use of a 3D telly seems to be to watch your Blu Ray films in 3D on then.
Although many tv's now advertise that they convert standard 2D to 3D, probably for that very reason that Sky is way too dear!
Thank you for this useful post rabwright and a warm welcome to World of Digital, I look forward to reading some more of your informative opinions. Hidden Content

Re: Time for me to leave Sky once again
I called to cancel last week was offered 25% off for 12 months...am tempted to stay now. I've seen better offers for customers who did cancel so might have to bite the bullet :S

Re: Time for me to leave Sky once again
Call Sky and just ask to cancel. They'll transfer you to cancellations and they'll fight tooth and nail to keep you. I got the full Sky package, including movies and sport, Sky phone service, and Sky broadband for ?45 a month. Not bad considering the full price is around ?90ish.

Must try this, though franklyeven paying half price for the same movies every day and 217 "+1" channels hardly seems worth it.

Re: Time for me to leave Sky once again
I think I might have to try this one and threaten to cancel.
Because I just tried to upgrade to skyHD, and I would have thought that with being a customer for more years than I can remember
that they would have offered me a special upgrade deal.
But, nope no deal what so ever, the person I spoke to basically told me that there were just no deals on at the minute.
So i will have to try the cancelling option to see what they say.

Couldn't agree more. It took four days of phone calls to get the missing (but subscribed for) HD channels to work. Call after call and being left on hold with the saying, "give it 24 hours to activate". Eventually one young lad (sounded like he was from London) knew what I was on about, flipped a switch and they were there instantly!
The only other contact we've had is we subscribed to the movies for Christmas, then went to cancel them a couple of months afterwards. Sky offered us a 20% discount if we KEPT the movie channels. The discount amounted to more than we would have saved if we cancelled them!
As you say though, it's great when it's running smoothly.

Re: Time for me to leave Sky once again
Cancelled Sky two months ago. Already received an offer of 6 months full package for free . I will not be taking up their kind offer as I can not face paying for more repeats and advertisements once the free period comes to an end.

Re: Time for me to leave Sky once again
As far as Sky Tv goes I've never had a problem, however the same cannot be said for their broadband.
For 2 months I had a faulty router and it was only when I finally snapped and threatened they with cancelling everything and getting Trading Standards involved did they finally replace it.
I often think about cancelling Sky but I can't help thinking it's a case of better the devil you know.

Over ?700 a year to watch tv... I think I'd rather watch the washing machine and chastise myself.
