Joey Barton has accepted the American government's decision to refuse him entry to the country, which rules him out of Newcastle's pre-season tour.
Barton was refused a visa on account of his criminal past, meaning he will have to train with the club's reserves and juniors while the first team are on tour.
The midfielder has admitted that it would not be right for him to be treated differently to the rest of the public.
"I regret not being able to travel but, at the same time, I don't expect to be treated any differently or more favourably than anyone else in a similar situation," Barton said. "All I can do is continue to improve as a person."
