World's largest hamburger weighs 777 pounds
The largest hamburger in the world has weighed in at 777 pounds (352 kilograms).
Taking 14 hours to cook at Alameda County Fair in California, the burger beat the previous record of 590 pounds (268 kilograms), Newark Patch reports.
An event supervisor, speaking as the meat was being cooked, commented: "It's this cow's 15 minutes of fame, and it doesn't even know it... It looks delicious."
The hamburger, three feet thick and five feet in diameter, included 50 pounds of lettuce, 12 pounds of pickle and 50 pounds of onions. It is thought to have represented an estimated 1.375 million calories.
Juicy's LLC, who broke the record, had to build a 72,000-pound custom grill for the patty. They started cooking in the early morning, finally finishing at 8pm.
Hundreds of members of the public were then invited to eat from the burger for 99 cents (61 pence) a piece, with proceeds going to the local community food bank.
Health officials had to be present to ensure the entire meat was cooked properly and used thermometers to monitor the temperatures.
The achievement has been approved by Guinness World Record officials.
