Passenger stung by scorpion on plane
A man has been stung by a stray scorpion while on a plane.
Jeff Ellis was travelling from Seattle to Alaska on June 17 when he came upon the scorpion, Sky News reports.
"I felt it on my shirt sleeve and brushed it off," he said. "I thought it was a little spider or something. Then I felt it back on my elbow."
Ellis had been napping when he was awoken by the scorpion, which stung him on his elbow before he picked it up with a napkin.
"In the movies, scorpions kill people," he continued, recalling the 30-minute wait until the plane landed. "I was just nervous, on edge, making sure that my heart was beating normal, that I wasn't sweating."
Ellis was given the all-clear by doctors, who reportedly resorted to Google for help on how to deal with scorpion stings due to the rarity of the creature in Alaska.
The 55-year-old was compensated with air miles and two return tickets by Alaska Airlines. Officials believe that the scorpion boarded the plane in Austin, Texas.
