Vista Service Pack 1 info (available very soon)

    Benefits

Windows Vista contains a significant amount of files shared with Windows Server 2008 and therefore benefits from the continual improvements made during the Windows Server 2008 development cycle.

SP1 will improve the performance, reliability, and other areas of Windows Vista.

The standalone service pack will include all languages. It can update all PCs running Windows Vista -regardless of language.

Componentization brings benefits such as the ability to uninstall updates in any order more reliably.

    Tradeoffs

The standalone package will be large (1 GB for x86).

Installing the service pack will require a large amount of free disk space (7 GB for x86 and 12 GB for x64). However, most of this space will be reclaimed after installation.

SP1 will change a significant number of files; customers cannot apply SP1 to offline Windows Vista images.
This should be available for download within the next 3 weeks and should sor out a lot of the problems people have been having, a lot more info here >>> Hidden Content

There is a website on the net that has all the vista updates and hotfixes on it, it should appear on there.

Re: Vista Service Pack 1 info (available very soon)

The Release version is now available to Manufacturers and via MSDN Subs, I downloaded it and installed it the other night. I set it running and went to bed, but it upgraded without any issues and I was greeted by a succesful update message when I logged on the next day.

So far I haven't really noticed a massive difference, I haven't had a crash in the last 4 days, which probably is evidence of improved stability. I like Vista when it works, but due to issues with stability and gaming I installed an XP dual boot about 6 months ago, maybe I can get rid of it now, but I really doubt it......and XP SP3 is coming.....

I just installed that, the pverall performance of the PC is slightly faster other then that there is no noticable difference. I read somewhere that the search bar in the start menu had been taken away but it is still there.

    Overall it seems alot smoother.
