Recording from VCR (or Using the SCART Input)

I'm trying to work out how to switch to the VCR input SCART on my DBOX (Sagem; 1 chip; Commando 6). I want to record from a VHS tape, which I presume is possible once you can get the image onto the screen!

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I've gone through all the menus on the DBOX and can't find any obvious reference. Any ideas?

(I've searched extensively, and can't find this - of course, "VCR" is too short for the search engine, and "SCART", "video" and "input" are in pretty much every thread, which doesn't make it easy!)

I try to understand your message...

Do you want to record from your VCR to the Dbox and basically digitize the analog VHS Signal to your PC HDD ?

If above is what you want the answer is no

Re: All Video Recording discussions here

That's exactly what I want to do, pt-1. Take the SCART input into the DBOX and record to PC HDD from it. I take it from your post that it's not possible to do that at all.

Re: All Video Recording discussions here

I have an Issue wqith Cammando 6 on a sagem 1x the direct recording works OK but if I try an schedule it for sometime in the future it doesnt record and the dbox although still playing the tv images wont react to any instruction from the remote so I then need to reboot. Is there a way to get the schedule recording to funtion?

A good way to find a fault is to actually post a log of the Box when the issue occurs.

Are you sure the direct recording settings and the mapped drive settings are all correct ?
Did you actually check the Timer afterwards after setting it in the Timerlist ?

Above log would be a serial connection to a pc whilst the timered event occurs

Re: All Video Recording discussions here

The timer shedule is listed correctly for any program i set it for, the map drive is correct, if I just direct record without a schedule all goes well, also playback of any .ts files occurs without problems. I think when the time comes to start the schedule is when the error occurs freezing the box (TV still works but remote control doenst) I havent a null modem cable to hand but will post a debug file when I get hold of one.

Re: All Video Recording discussions here

Update: I seem to have it working OK (fingers crossed) all I did was give everyone group full access in share and security (NTFS) settings, the quirkey thing is I did set up a specific user for this anyway and this user did have full control beforehand so why its works now I do not know but thats all I changed.

Re: All Video Recording discussions here

For anyone using direct recording using NTFS or CIFS mounts, i'd recommend recording from BBC1 as an initial test. If you can record for longer than 3 mins on this channels, you should have not problems. I say BBC1, because I believe this uses a high bitrate. Loads of times I thought I had it cracked recording from ITV, sky movies, but would always get the odd problem. BBC1 for me never direct records.

I now use UDREC along with Dboxwinserver & a CIFS mount. This works flawlessly on every channels, playback also works perfect.

    record to VCR

Ok maybe a stupid question but when I connect the scart to TV and scart to VCR as stated on the back of the dbox I can see the TV channels through the TVs AV. When I go to my VCR av channel I dont see the TV channels I just get the "no signal" screen, I can play a video and it will appear on the TV but I was expecting to be able to see the TV channels from the dbox when viewing through vcr then record to the VCR, am I being thick?

    Re: record to VCR

I had a problem like this when trying to record freeview on my video , there was a button on my video remote that says tv/vcr and it switches between the 2 when on the video channel, dont know if thats the same sort of problem your having.

Try using the other scart output on the dbox see if you get a picture then also try a different scart lead.

    Re: record to VCR

most scart devices will only have in&out on AV1 not on AV2 or one marked TV
this is to stop feedback loops.

    Dbox recording in scart mode?

    Hi,

Anyone know if it is possible to record in scart mode? Got a few episodes of Strutter recorded on my skyhd box and want to get them onto my pc, I haven't got a dvd recorder and the only other thing I can think of is trying to get the dboc to record it to my pc's harddrive.

    Cheers
