Above is unfortunately not very informative ...

What Operating System are you using ?
What Share are you using (Cifs/NFS) ?
What Guide did you follow ?
Does the Share work on the DBox (Heartbeat shown on Active share) ?

    @Fergy

This here maybe : Hidden Content

    or try Hidden Content

Open the Java File after unzipped it and then Open the File you want to convert. Then click on prepare and tick TS and give that a go.

No clue about AVI's but MPegs should be fine

Re: All Video playback discussions here

Ok i have sorted the issue i was having by using
Allok AVI MPEG Converter to convert the Avi to Mpeg2
you can play will the red circled settings for quality.
    see attached screenshot.

Then used ProjectX to convert it to TS
    screenshot attached.
Thanks to PT-1 for pointing me to ProjectX

It took 40 minutes to covert the Avi=701Mb file to Mpeg2=1.36Gb

Then 4 minutes to convert the Mpeg2=1.36Gb file to a TS=1.56Gb file

Then 35 minutes to FTP it to the Hdd on the box.
    Total Time=79 minutes

    Laptop Spec:
    2.40GHz CPU (Celeron)
    240MB of ram
Altering the settings in Avi to Mpeg converter will effect the file size
The spec of your pc will obviously make the time it takes vary also.
Quality and sound is like the original Avi i started with.

Thumbs down Streaming to DBox 2

Asked this question before some time ago but not got any joy
Anyone know how to stream live from internet to Dbox using VLC.
You can stream Shoutcast radio with a call to the url from the DBox and You can stream video (all formats) by using VLC Player with a call from DBox to Pc
and selectng the movie file on your harddrive. I would have thought it possible that If I can call up an MMS HTTP or other type of streaming media on the net via a resuest on the DBox VLC will play it and it should play after buffering direct to DBox and TV setup.
Any ideas all the experts out there

VLC limitations in need of HELP

Apologises in advance if you have read my question in another forum.

This first question is can VLC stream avi files which were not recorded from tv to pc e.g. any movies downloaded from the net.

if no, then is there any software that has this function?
If yes then im having a bit trouble:

Currently using msi wireless router + belkin gaming adaptor as bridge.
Installed the software but havoe not 'tweaked' any mac, or ip setting.
Should i? Read somewehre that SSID and other tecnhial parameters needs to be set, is this true or is it just plug and play style?

Installed VLC 0.7.2 and replaced the dbox html in admin directory.
    Created a folder >> g:\dbox + a downloaded avi movie
started vlc fine and web interface i can see.

Now in the dbox setting, entered the ip address of the pc
all other setting exactly as on the faq.
But when go to file via vlc, the folder is blank and dbox freezes.

Any suggestiions? i;m sure it's the router and bridge serting not correct, but what?

    HELP PLEASE!!!

Yes VLC can stream any downloaded avi's to the tv via your dbox.

To get it working 0.7.2 is very old.
Read my guide available here and follow it carefully and if you do it should work for you.

Re: VLC limitations in need of HELP

If you've got your cable modem connected to your router then the dynamic IP from NTL has ZERO effect on you as your PC will get it's IP address from your router. You can configure this yourself as well to be a static one but you've got to figure that out as without a detailed post on how you've got everything connected and what models of equipment you've got it is impossible to say how to do this.

Most routers had out IP's in a default range of 192.168.1.x, where x is 2-253. A small range is for the dynamic hand out of IP's and the rest you can you can use for fixed on kit fitted your side.

Re: VLC limitations in need of HELP

Ok, This is what i've done:

MSI wireless router which has default ip of 192.168.1.254
Upon setting up the msi router, it lets you to choose bet. static ip or dynamic >> gone 4 dynamic option as u said
Bridge has defalut ip of 192.168.2.225
Network adaptor ip is assigned by dhcp

In dbox, under network set dhcp off and ip to 192.168.1.111
and default gateway and dns to exactly as on pc
under recording set the server ip to the one shown in netwrok card (assigned by dhcp)
set the dbox ip in dboxwinserver to 192.168.1.111
All othe setting as guide but get NO CONNECTION TO SERVER message

Re: VLC limitations in need of HELP

Ok, can you actually ping the dbox from the PC?

If you open a command prompt and type
    ipconfig
What is the IP address given?

Also why are you using a brdige in a home network? what is the purpose you are using it for? bridges are used for large multi part ethernet networks normally. Or is the bridge a setting somewhere in the router? (what model MSI are you using?)

Re: VLC limitations in need of HELP

i think i have sorted it out after tweaking the ip addys.
The bridge is a Belkin gaming adaptor which is nnected to the dbox as my dbox and pc are in serparte locations.

Basically, it is the 2nd netwrok example in the faq

I have a question... Does the VLC patch need to be applied if you are streaming video using yWeb? I seem to get an orange cone most of the time.

Not to sure try changing to evocamd and ucode0014.

Re: VLC limitations in need of HELP

I do not believe so as the pathc is purely there for calls from the dbox to vlc, in the csae you are using with yweb that does the talking to the dbox.

As fergalsworld states, use ucode 0014 as if you try and view an encrypted channel without using this ucode you will get a cone.
