Almost certain that this will just be a flat CMOS battery, a very quick and easy fix.
Sounds to me like although your Motherboard is recognising the RAM Modules, it's likely that the BIOS firmware needs updating to support 6GB RAM.
The other possibility is that, 4GB is the max...
I'd personally recommend you go for the Youview Box myself, regardless of provider you will get a decent piece of Kit and ample Programmes to record, also access to Catchup TV and Online Video...
Definitely worth looking around for cheaper alternatives, I've had a few Humax's in the past and while they are expensive, the build quality and reliability do not always come up to scratch.
