Football could learn a lot from Rugby ! I witnessed something the other week for the first time and was pleasantly surprised - a rugby league match ! My two eldest children and all others around our area where give free tickets to watch Widnes (a town I usually put my foot down in the car and get through fast). I went along with my wife to watch the game, didn't understand too much what was going on but......the differences between this and football were vast. I could here no swearing what so ever from any of the stands, when the players got hurt and hit the ground, nobody rolled around waiting for the game to stop, they simply treated him on the pitch and got on with it. Decisions made by the ref weren't argued over with players surrounding the ref calling for his head, they accepted them walked over to the sin bin. Cheer leaders ran on when a point was scored, the club mascot made a fuss of the crowd all the way through the game and to finish it off the players ran over to the kids to give a high five (made my kids day). Now I'm not going to jib football for the egg chasing game, but if football even took a small amount of this from the rugby it would go a long way. I've sat in the family section with my kids at Everton and it's 'F' this 'F' that, so just what is the difference. It costs a fortune to get into the game and I would have to say it's nowhere near the same value as we got the other night.
