converting SATA to IDE

My nefew has a dell pc its all SATA he wants to put an old 120 gig Ide drive into it and an IDE writter i have 2 converters to convert from SATA to IDE but the bios does not seem to reconise the HD or the Writter anyone any idea where to go next sorry no manual and searched the net on stuff i can find is russian,
MOBO is Foxconn MO2 RevA00.
Any help would be great im stuck on this one.
