WWE Wrestling Fans, Shocking news on Chris Benoit and family tragedy. I have just downloaded and watched a Fox news report on the WWE wrestler Chris Benoit. It is reported that between Friday 21st June and Saturday 22nd June the popular wrestler killed both his wife and young son at home and then several hours later hung himself! The Sheriffs department are treating this as a double murder and suicide by the "Rabid Wolverine" to use his in ring name. He also left bibles beside the bodies of his dead family. It appears they were suffocated/strangled. It is very early days in the investigation but prescription steroids were found at the home.
The report stated also that 60 wrestlers have died in the last 10 years at an early age. I have been a fan of WWE/WWF since about 1990 and know of many famous wrestlers, that have given me enjoyment over the years, that have died tragically young. Love it or hate it these men and women give a lot of enjoyment to people all over the world. They are well paid, but put their bodies on the line in the name of entertainment.
I am sad to see the career of such a popular wrestler end in this way and that his family had to die with him in such a tragic waste of life. The world of professional wrestling is not regarded as a sport, but as sports entertainment. As such it is not controlled the same way as other sports with regards to drugs testing. It is high time it was! Sport or not it requires a high level of fitness and athleticism to perform in the ring so many nights of the year all over the world. I thank the men and women who do this for my entertainment.
All that having been said I think its long overdue that American authorities started treating professional wrestling as a SPORT and drug tested the participants for steroid use. The American medical association should also get its act together and stop prescribing anabolic steroids to people like Smarties. It has not YET been proven that the tragic events were caused by "Roid Rage" as they call it, but it seems highly likely. Are the pressures of travel and entertaining us so great that so many of our wrestling "heroes" have to die so young?
I am sorry for the loss of this young family and all the other families of these sports entertainers who have died so young over recent years. Come on America sort out some of the mess in your own back yard before you poke your nose into someone else's and lets not see any more die due to potentially lethal steroid abuse.
I would gratefully appreciate any one else's thoughts and comments on this news story and constructive criticism of wrestling in general.
R.I.P Benoit family and thank you for the fun.
