can my ex do this or not

as the title says. here goes. i have been apart from my children for 6 years now. long story i wont go into but. i recived my children school reports with diffrent surenames on them. the ex partners surname. can she do this or not. as i am on the birth cert. i belive she has also changed there surname in the doctors too. is this not alegally. for securty reasons. please help me out here guys and girls. kind regards youngie.
