Nikon Coolpix LCD problem We are almost senior citizens who knew nothing about digital cameras and went to our local branch of John Lewis where we were advised by the "nice young man" that a Nikon Coolpix 4300 would suit us nicely. We paid the £200 and took it home where it performed fantastically for three years as a point-and-shoot. However tragedy struck when the rear LCD recently died on us but the rest of the camera was still working. We sent it off to Nikon who quoted us £70 for the repair. You can now buy a cheap digital for about £100 so I rang them up and they kindly reduced it by 25% but having been brought up with cameras that lasted for years we were still somewhat reluctant. I browsed the net and found some comments about some Nikons with faults in the US where they had received a free repair but I couldn't link these to my own model. Being somewhat "careful with money" I found a diagram on the net of how to take your camera to pieces, then tried looking for replacement LCDs, thinking of trying to repair it myself, but couldn't find one for Nikon. At the end of the day we had a choice - either throw the Coolpix into the bin and buy a new camera or pay for the repair - we eventually decided to pay and hope that the new LCD lasts a bit longer than the last one. |
