updating needed

I am not new to satellite but my knowledge is limited so I will post this here. If its in the wrong section then please accept my apologies and move it.
I still have my humax 5400z and still have lots of fta chanels. I use it mainly for my wife to watch russian tv. When I stopped using it seriously (about 2 years ago) a lot of chanels got re-encrypted and the only solution was a cam. I still kept in touch with the forums though as they went through ice cams, dragon cams etc. however I am now out of touch and I was wondering what the situation was with this receiver now. Is it still possible to patch it with the latest T.O. H patch and get more chanels? or is a cam still needed. If someone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful
