Man arrested over Wallwork stabbing A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody over the stabbing of footballer Ronnie Wallwork in a Manchester bar last month.
Robert Rimmer turned himself in at a Greater Manchester police station and has now been charged with attempted murder over the violent assault on the professional footballer.
Wallwork has since been discharged from hospital after suffering injuries to his hand, back and stomach in the knife attack at Manchester's Sugar Lounge bar on Whitworth Street.
A police spokeswoman said Rimmer was due to appear in a Manchester court this morning to face the charges. Police are still appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened at around 23:30 GMT on November 30th.
Wallwork was attending a private party at the Sugar Lounge with his girlfriend when the attack happened. He received medical treatment from bar staff before being rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary.
The 29-year-old is currently under contract at West Bromwich Albion and was on loan to Barnsley at the time of the stabbing.
The former Manchester United midfielder's agent, Neill Sillett, said Wallwork would attempt to make a complete return to playing professional football in the future but that a timetable for a return to training was not a realistic proposition at such an early stage. |
