Alan Curbishley resigns as West Ham manager
Curbishley’s position at Upton Park became increasingly precarious in recent days over his opposition to the board’s cost-cutting transfer policy, under which centre-half Anton Ferdinand and left-back George McCartney both left for Sunderland.
And a club statement has now comfirmed that Curbishley has stepped down.
"We can confirm that we have accepted Alan Curbishley's resignation as we feel it is in the best interests of both parties," read the statement. "We wish Alan all the success in the future. A shortlist of candidates is being drawn up and an announcement will be made in due course about the new West Ham United manager."
After what the club has described as a "summer of consolation", a statement from chairman Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson this morning said: "In my first season as chairman of this great football club, I can assure our loyal supporters that we are working hard to bring sustained success to West Ham United.
