This is something that has always confused me so here goes. . .

I have 4mb(soon to be 10mb) broadband from virgin media. The thing that bothers me is that when i am downloading i get maximum 500kbps downstream. Speed tests tell me i have 4mb but where i get confused is shouldn't i get 4000kb/s downsteam?

4000kb/s ~ 4mb

Can someone explain this to me?
