This member is the original thread starter. cheap and cheerful ?

Hi all,
I was talking to a mate in work who picked up a Silvercrest SL65 form LIDL with a 59cm dish for €70. He hasn't set it up yet, but will probably get a chance to at the weekend. He is expecting to be able to receive 200+ FTA channels by pointing the dish at 28 degrees east or something like that. I will get more details once he has it setup I am sure.

This got me thinking, my parents in real terms live in the middle of nowhere, have crap TV reception, and a 80's choice of TV channels (no cable, only an UHF and VHF aerials strapped to the chimney pot).
Code:
BBC1 (Northern Ireland) - snowy signal
BBC2 (Northern Ireland) - snowy signal
UTV - snowy signal
C4 - snowy signal
RTE1 - snowy signal
RTE2 - snowy signal
TG4 - snowy signal
TV3 - snowy signal
Anyhow I was wondering if anybody here can recommend a cheap and cheerful FTA satellite receiver and dish to drag my parents, probably kicking and screaming, into the 21st century. I somehow feel that the LIDL one that my mate has will die a horrible death in a year or be ripped from his roof, which is one thing that I want to avoid. What I am looking for is something that won't cost an arm and a leg and will have a good few channels. Something that I won't be getting support calls about every other week. There is no need for a motor or anything, K.I.S.S. is my motto (Keep It Simple, Stupid) - belt and braces.

Thanks in advance, for any suggestions.
