Car Failed MOT

Right just got a small question my car has failed its mot and its gonna set me back a fair bit i was gonna go ahead with it until i asked for faults and he mentioned the rear windscreen wiper was faulty and then alarm bells rang! and told him to hold off until tomorrow gotta check for funds, NOW from what i read and have heard a windscreen wiper can only fail if it doesn't clean thee windows and/or cause a obstruction and the rear windows ant even included in a test? can someone confirm this i would like to have confirmation before i go to the garage tomorrow?
